A 360 video animation project exploring the question “What is art, without community?”.
The design conference Semi Permanent approached Guy Jamieson from Poke The Bear Animation a couple of months ago to see if they could help them create a promotional video for their conference. The theme for the conference was Deign For Change.
The brief was to utilise the 360 VR library of Getty Images to create a short film that reflected this theme. “Our idea was based around the question of “What is art without community?”. The narrative would involve flowing through amazing 360 helicopter footage found in the Getty library on a journey looking for other artists to share our creations with.”
The title, Does It Make A Sound, comes from the phrase If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound? Is art the same?
It was fitting that Poke The Bear sought to collaborate with other artists on this project. The fabulous designer/director Robertino Zambrano created the characters and concept art that went on to become this short film.
Animating in VR was a new experience here and we learnt a lot. Very much looking forward to making this journey again.
